Developing the MIS Database

A Management Information System provides a wide scope for data management and functions. The model we are building and demonstrating will focus on some of the core IT Service Management functional areas - Project and Change Management, Service Desk and Problem Management.

The plan over time is to widen the scope of the project and functions of the system, and we expect to have a structured foundation in place to facilitate expansions with relative ease.

At this stage of the project we have developed three separate databases with tables grouped as illustrated. Note that we are not using a dedicated table for Change Management records, as these wil be included in the Project Management tables.

Because we have no set time restraints, or budget limits (we have no budget), we will enjoy an extended "prototype" phase of the project.  This is partly due to our database team getting up to speed with advanced methods in MS Acess rather than clarity of our objectives and deliverables.

Furthermore, our desire is to invite suggestions and advice from our community on the MIS design and direction.
